The name Checheng comes from the Taiwanese Hokkien term for “rail yard.” In the past, the Puli Sugar Factory used this area to transport raw materials and finished products, with many small rail carts parked in front of the station, giving the station its name.
Today, Checheng Railway Station still preserves the original wooden architecture that fills the air with the faint scent of wood, perfectly blending with the surrounding mountain scenery. It has earned a reputation as one of the most beautiful railway stations in Taiwan. Besides selling traditional hard tickets that stir up nostalgia, the station area features a grassy railway display, a signal tower, and a painted train exhibit, capturing the charm of old railway life and adding a playful touch. On weekends, many families visit to ride the hand-pushed rail carts, enjoying a taste of the tracks’ past.
