Located in Shuili Township, Nantou, Checheng is the final stop on the Jiji Line and an important place where Taiwan’s forestry and railway history converge. This mountain town by the river first came to life during the Japanese colonial era, when the Daguan Power Plant was built here, drawing in workers and resources. Later, it grew rapidly as a transportation hub for the sugar and timber industries. The town was once so lively that people called it “Little Taipei,” a name that still hints at its former glory.
