Shang’an Village is nestled among the mountains and brims with rich Hakka culture and the simple charm of rural life. It is known for its abundant plum harvest, symbolized by the ancient word “槑,” and has earned the playful nickname “Dumb Dumb Community,” as the word “槑” is formed by repeating the character for “dumb” in Chinese. Shang’an has faced challenges, including the 921 Earthquake and Typhoon Toraji, but the residents came together to rebuild and reinvent the village by developing leisure agriculture. They established the Mei Leisure Agriculture Area, bringing new vitality to the community. Today, Shang’an offers a range of agricultural and cultural activities, from picking plums and making plum products to growing mushrooms, making tea, and harvesting grapes. These hands-on experiences highlight the ingenuity and vibrancy of this Hakka farming community.
