Shuili Magpie Bridge

The Shuili Magpie Bridge spans 225 meters across the Sanbu Creek gorge and is the longest single-span suspension bridge in Nantou. Originally built as a disaster relief and emergency access route, it has become the most iconic landmark of Shang’an Village. Suspended high above the valley, the bridge offers sweeping views of layered green mountains and cool breezes when you walk across it. At sunrise and sunset, the scene takes on an even more poetic beauty.

The name Magpie Bridge comes from a divination ritual at the local Yongtian Temple, symbolizing lasting love and companionship. At the entrance to the bridge, a ceramic tile mural created by local residents depicts the rural spirit of the community. Delicate magpie decorations adorn the bridge, adding a touch of romance to the already breathtaking experience.
