Millennium Double-Mouthed Vase

The Millennium Double-Mouthed Vase is a striking visual landmark within the Shuili Snake Kiln Ceramics Cultural Park. After the devastating 921 Earthquake, this monumental ceramic work was created in 2000 to help heal the community’s wounds. By setting a Guinness World Record as the world’s tallest ceramic vase, it aimed to inspire people and show that the path to rebuilding was not as daunting as it seemed.

The vase was crafted using the traditional coil-building technique. Work began in December 2000 and was completed in June the following year. To fire this towering piece, a special vertical wood-fired kiln was built, and a crane was used to carefully assemble and disassemble the vase on site. The design draws on a Taiwanese proverb that speaks of eternal love and prosperity for couples, reflecting a heartfelt blessing for all those who see it.
