Also known as Shengji Pavilion, the Jingzi Pavilion stands beside the historic residence. Built in 1850, it is a well-preserved, slender pagoda-shaped structure. The pavilion vividly reflects the Hakka belief in cherishing written characters, holding that paper bearing words should never be discarded casually, but instead be respectfully collected and burned here. The pavilion consists of two levels. The lower level was used for the ceremonial burning of written paper, while the upper level enshrines Cangjie, the legendary creator of Chinese characters, and Wenchang Dijun, the deity of literature. Amid rising incense smoke, it stands as a guardian of local scholarship and embodies the long-standing Hakka tradition of revering learning and cultural education.
