Jiadong

Jiadong Township in Pingtung County is often described as a living museum. With its well-preserved historic settlements and deep-rooted Hakka cultural heritage, the township carries a historical charm shaped over more than a century. A walk through the area offers a glimpse into the architectural artistry of Taiwan’s only five-hall traditional residence, including the Xiao Family Residence and the Yang Clan Ancestral Hall. Visitors can also pass through the West Gate, which bears witness to the Hakka spirit of loyalty and righteousness, and stroll along the Poet’s Walk, rich in literary atmosphere.

From the Zhang Family Commercial Building, once at the heart of local commerce, to the legendary Buyue House, every roof tile and brick wall tells stories of early settlement and family prosperity. Within this simple and authentic Hakka village, historic architecture and literary imagery intertwine, together portraying the warm and humanistic Hakka elegance that defines southern Taiwan.
