The Shierliao Chapel of Angels was originally completed in 1963 as a beautiful Catholic church with Spanish red tile roofing. However, over time, as congregation numbers dwindled, the structure gradually fell into disrepair, eventually becoming an overgrown ruin of brick and tile. A married couple, Liu Tsong-han and Ho Li-mei, couldn’t bear to see the church abandoned. After a decade of effort and personally funding the purchase of the property rights, they began the restoration work. The church reopened in 2022, and the couple named it the Chapel of Angels in gratitude for the “angels” who helped them overcome various challenges during the renovation process. The restoration revived its original beauty, with red tiles, white walls, arched porticos, stained glass windows, and biblical oil paintings. Two angel statues now stand outside the church, while a copper angel fountain symbolizing truth, goodness, and beauty graces the entrance. Inside, numerous angel paintings and murals imbue the entire space with a sacred and blessed atmosphere. Currently, the church is open by appointment only and offers guided tours.
