Situated at the base of the hills in Fuyuan Village, the Shuiguantou Bogong Temple predates the Japanese era and stands as one of the oldest Earth God temples in the area. Its name comes from its proximity to the Xingquan Canal, which once supplied water to steam locomotives, earning it the title Shuiguantou, meaning the starting point of the water pipe. The temple is also affectionately known as the Doorplate Bogong, a nickname that originates from an amusing piece of local history. In earlier times, in order to apply for an independent electricity connection, devotees registered an official house number for the temple’s Earth God. Blending railway heritage with charming local lore, this temple is a must visit destination for travelers exploring the rich religious and cultural traditions of Hakka communities.
