Located in Ruisui Township, Hualien, the Fuyuan community, once known as Bazai Village, is a settlement with rich Hakka culture in the East Rift Valley. The village has several historical sites: Zhaozhong Temple, which reflects Qing-era military history, Hualien's oldest Chenghuang Temple, and remnants of a Japanese-era Shinto shrine. While exploring the village, visitors can enjoy traditional food at the three-generation Yongle Eatery and experience the Drum King Competition, one of the Hakka community's twelve major festivals. Every summer, the tradition of human-borne drum performance and the energy of local residents bring this century-old settlement to life. Fuyuan's cultural heritage and vibrant festivals make it a great place to experience Taiwan's Hakka traditions.
