A must-try this summer. Traditional Hakka cuisine has long been known for its savory specialties, such as the classic four simmered and four stir-fried dishes, while desserts have been much less common. For many, the most familiar Hakka sweet might be the chewy rice cake known as ciba (similar to mochi). This summer, the Hakka Affairs Council has partnered with NINAO Gelato to give Hakka cuisine a fresh twist, creatively reinterpreting signature ingredients to offer an entirely new taste of Hakka flavors.
Working with dessert and bakery partners, NINAO Gelato has crafted four refined treats: Maoli Black Tea Crystal Ice Cup, Liuk-kâ, Lei Cha Spiral Bread, and Hakka Grass Cake Bun, bringing Hakka culture to life through a light, modern, and innovative culinary experience.
The “NINAO Gelato: Hakka Summer Vibes” series will be available at four NINAO Gelato stores through September 18, 2025. The public is warmly invited to visit Tainan to enjoy these refreshing summer desserts and snacks, where Hakka ingredients meet creative flair, adding a burst of freshness and joy to the season.
