The forbidden mountain of Zuodui and the water culture of the settlements
The story of the underground river under Dawu Mountain – The forbidden mountain of Zuodui and the water culture of the settlements
Features

Dawu Mountain, in Chen Guanxue's writing, is called Damu Mountain, which means "the mother of Pingtung." Every year after the spring equinox and Guyu solar terms, the southwesterly wind blows across southern Taiwan, bringing moisture from the sea. This moisture that cannot surpass Dawu Mountain condenses into precipitation at the mountain-top and infiltrates into the hills and the forests, becoming the water reserve for the underground river. Even outside of the wet season, there is still a steady stream of underground water - throughout the dry season from October to March of the next year. The water flows into canals that go through Hakka regions, irrigating the fields, and feeding the people under Dawu Mountain. The relationship between the underground river and the life, production, and nature of the Hakka settlements at the foot of Dawu Mountain has enriched the ecology and culture of the Liudui Hakka regions. With the guidance of a professional guide, all your curiosity about its history and culture will be satisfied in one trip.
