Hakka Culture Development Center Links Culture and Environmental Learning Through Low-Carbon Cycling Tours

Date:2025-06-30

In recent years, as people increasingly seek a higher quality of life while caring for the environment, green tourism has emerged as a key trend for the future. This year, the Hakka Culture Development Center partnered with the National Environmental Research Academy to host three cycling tour programs from June 28 to June 30 at the Taiwan Hakka Museum. The itinerary combined low-carbon cycling, cultural exploration, environmental education, and sightseeing, featuring key Hakka destinations such as Dunxu Hall, Tongluo Kiln, and Tongluo Tea Factory. Through hands-on activities, the program promoted sustainability and showcased the traditional Hakka lifestyle and its connection to the natural environment.

The cycling tours are guided by the core concept of “Cycling is Action, Culture is Scenery”, offering a cycling experience suitable for all ages. Routes were designed to accommodate both regular cyclists and seniors, encouraging everyone to discover local highlights through an eco-friendly approach. The event also tracked participants' carbon footprints and featured Hakka-style meals alongside interactive environmental workshops, helping participants better understand cultural heritage and environmental sustainability. One participant shared, “It was my first time visiting Tongluo by bike. Not only was it fun, but it also made me appreciate the culture and environment even more.” A senior rider added, “I thought my age would make cycling too difficult, but this trip was comfortable and fulfilling. The tour guide's insights really helped us connect with the local heritage.”

In addition, the Taiwan Hakka Museum has launched an eco-friendly electric bike rental service this year, providing a convenient option for visitors while promoting sustainable travel. In July, the museum will also host the Hakka Summer Camp as well as various exhibitions and special events.
