To commemorate "Liudui Day," the Hakka Affairs Council's Hakka Culture Development Center is hosting a series of events from June 1st to June 6th. These events, including “Liudui Day Vibrant Hakka Art Activities (liugˋduiˊngidˋgoi nau ngied caiˋ fi hagˋgaˊngi)" and "Liudui Day Hakka Village Tours," aim to introduce participants to the unique cultural aspects of the six Hakka settlements in Liudui. By engaging in colorful painting activities and village tours, visitors can explore cultural landmarks such as the Huoshao Village Monument in Qiandui (front settlement), the Zhongyi Temple in Zhongdui (middle settlement), the Tianhou Temple and Changli Temple in Houdui (back settlement), the Yang Family Ancestral Hall in Zuodui (left settlement), and the tobacco barn in Youdui (right settlement). These activities provide insights into local cultural stories for both young and old, promoting cultural education and deepening roots in the community.
Director He of the Hakka Culture Development Center highlighted that Liudui Day is a significant occasion for preserving Hakka history and culture. One of the most distinctive cultural products of the Hakka people is the blue shirt, which blends craftsmanship and artistry. To allow more people to experience Hakka blue shirts, the Liudui Hakka Cultural Park is launching a "Blue Shirt Theme Day" on Liudui Day. Through activities such as painting cultural landmarks, village tours, and blue shirt experiences, more people can learn about Hakka culture and its unique characteristics.
Moreover, to give the public a deeper understanding of Hakka folk culture, the Meinong Jinxing Blue Blouse Shop has been invited to demonstrate the live production of blue shirts on-site. There will also be displays of blue shirt-making tools and old photographs, offering a comprehensive view of blue shirt culture. Furthermore, visitors can try on blue shirts for a more engaging Hakka cultural experience.
In addition, the Hakka Culture Development Center is offering a special treat for the first 60 visitors who arrive wearing blue shirts (whether self-provided or rented for free from the park). These lucky visitors can savor Liudui’s rice-based food, enjoying the rich flavors of Liudui's rice-based culinary culture. The annual Liudui Day commemorative events kick off with activities such as coloring the Liudui landscapes, experiencing blue shirts, enjoying rice delicacies, and participating in village tours. These activities enable the public to immerse themselves in Hakka life, landscapes, and culture. Through intergenerational collaboration and learning, the spirit of Hakka and Liudui can be passed down for generations, while allowing participating families and children to have a memorable and enriching holiday.
