Liugdui Hakka Cultural Park, under the Taiwan Hakka Culture Development Center (THCDC), held the press conference for Be Our Guest at Liugdui, Explore Hakka Villages and Have Fun—Liugdui Picnic Day and Hakka Village Educational Tours on May 5, to celebrate International Museum Day. Don’t miss on this great opportunity!
THCDC Director Ho Chin-liang said that in line with 2024 International Museum Day’s theme of “museums for education and research”, THCDC invited local institutions and societies to craft educational experiences in Hakka villages at Liugdui from the perspectives of ecology, culture, cuisine, environmental education, and everyday Hakka language, demonstrating a museum’s ability to educate and encourage research. Additionally, bringing into full play Liugdui’s role as an ecomuseum, the learning and research areas were further expanded to all Hakka villages in Liugdui’s 12 townships, breaking museums’ traditional boundaries. Visitors can travel across Hakka villages while learning about culture, the land, industry, and sceneries in tours where residents tell local stories. This exemplifies Liugdui’s philosophy of local cooperation and mutual help.
THCDC presented certificates of appreciation to Sung Wen-hsien, local calligrapher at Meinong; Tseng Yao-chun, CEO of several editions of the Liugdui Sports Games; Hsiao Yi-hsiong, keeper of Hsiao’s Historic House at Jiadong Township; Chung Chan-hsiung, keeper of Jiangong Village Chung’s Historic House in Xinpi Township; and Pingtung Operation Branch, Taiwan Sugar Corporation. This is an expression of gratitude for the long-term, selfless contributions of local residents and enterprises of Liugdui Hakka villages. Together, they have built local stories and promoted Hakka culture sustainably while injecting fresh energy into Liugdui, acting as valuable work partners of the Liugdui Hakka Cultural Park.
On this year’s International Museum Day, educational tours of Hakka villages serve to fulfill the museum role of imparting knowledge, a continuation to Liugdui ecomuseum’s four themes in 2023: research, exhibition, collection, and educational travel. Local tours of Liugdui were organized this year under the concept of educational travel, crafting 12+3 experience routes in collaboration with 20 local organizations and the Indigenous Peoples Culture Development Center, Council of Indigenous Peoples. The 12 townships with Hakka villages are linked to indigenous lands to take travelers on a wonderful journey of cultural discovery, enabling them to create mouthwatering memories and glimpse at local everyday life. You, too, can grasp this chance to get to know distinctive customs of Hakka and indigenous peoples by experiencing street sights and local businesses.
