The Taiwan Pavilion in the main exhibition area of the “2023 Hakka World Expo” is based on the theme of “Roots and Shared Prosperity - Better with Hakka” along with the sub-themes of adapting, enriching and sharing Taiwan, to interpret the interweaving of the Hakka community and Taiwan's diverse culture. It also showcases the Taiwan Hakka perspectives in terms of history, policy, education, industry, art and culture etc. Individuals from 14 counties and cities including Taipei City, New Taipei City, Provincial Highway 3, Liudui and Provincial Highway 9 jointly curated the exhibition to highlight the diversity of Hakka culture across the country.
The curatorial theme of the Miaoli exhibition area is "Mountain Due," which represents an image of Miaoli Hakka life and culture, a way of life that fully uses natural resources, a humanism underscored by interactions with the environment that create numerous treasures of Miaoli Hakka culture and the open hearts of the residents of this mountain town.
The exhibition venue was designed to merge with the hills and ascending kilns of the mountain town, so visitors to this undulating landscape can witness highlights in ceramic, wood, literature and performing arts developed in Miaoli. There is an artistic installation by the entrance made up of two photographic works, "Home in the Mountain" by Lo Han-chang and “A Vis-à-vis Encounter” by Huang Sheng-Mu. These present the image of a man walking alone into the mountains to cultivate land intertwined with the unexpected encounter of two people walking up and down the hillside, revealing the profound meaning of “Mountain Due.”
The Miaoli exhibition area not only invites local craftsmen to produce exhibits and participate in the exhibition to showcase the spirit of legacy, it also creates the “The Leopard Cat’s Hideaway” AR multimedia content, which introduces a touch of novelty to the mountain town. In addition, Miaoli County Government has also launched a special offer to attract visitors. During the event, as long as visitors take a photo at the Miaoli exhibition area and tag #貓裏藝文on a Facebook post or #苗栗玩透透on an Instagram post/Story; and show it to staff they will receive a voucher to travel around Miaoli and enjoy discounts at 18 special partner shops such as Old Mountain Rail Line Bike and Sanyi Wood Sculpture Museum.
