HAC launches color scheme program to promote in Hakka settlements
Deputy Minister Chung said that color, which is closely related to people’s daily life, is an important part of life aesthetics, representing the appearance and characteristics of a place. He pointed out that the Hakka color scheme program is one of the key policies that the Council puts great emphasis on. The reason to select Guanxi Township to pilot the program is that 90 percent of the population in the region is Hakka people, Chung said, hoping that, starting from Guanxi, the program for highlighting local cultural characteristics of Hakka villages through different colors will be promoted widely in Hakka settlements across Taiwan.
Learning from successful overseas projects, such as urban style in Japan’s Kyoto, HAC commissioned the AGUA Design (水越設計) studio to carry out the Hakka color program. Led by director Agua Chou (周育如), the professional design team explored the signature color of each Hakka township by color analysis and field investigation to transform traditional Hakka colors on floral fabric and blue shirts into diverse Hakka cultural values.
At the presentation, director Chou shared thousands of scenes from everyday life in Guanxi, analyzing Hakka living environment, landscapes, village history, and architectural features from the perspective of color aesthetics.
The handbook “Beautiful Village: Hakka Colors of Guanxi” is scheduled to be published this October. The digital edition will be available on HAC’s website, allowing the public to discover more local colors in different Hakka villages.
