Hakka theater event celebrating Liugdui 300th anniversary kicks off in s. Taiwan
Hakka Affairs Council (HAC) Deputy Minister Chung Kung-chao (鍾孔炤) attended its opening event in Pingtung County on April 9, inviting the public to watch these captivating shows to experience the vitality of Hakka village’s art and culture as well as the hospitality of Liugdui people.
Three theatrical productions, including “Bayin Reunion (八音Reunion),” “The Burning Village (火燒庄),” and “Alili Is Looking for a Fish (阿莉莉找魚記),” were performed in Kaohsiung’s Meinong District and Pingtung’s Wanluan Township as well as Changzhi Township this weekend.
The theater event combines the local history of the Hakka settlement and the collective memory of local residents. Under the professional instruction from the theater groups, performers will give a new interpretation of the Hakka stories and restore artistic energy of Hakka villages in hope to perpetuate Hakka culture.
During the event, nine theatrical productions will be presented in 27 immersive stage shows by nine performing troupes, including Island Daybreak (小島旦), BIU Theatre (不可無料劇場), Double & Cross Theater Group (両両製造聚團), Old Boy Theatre (老男孩劇團), Action Corporation (表演家合作社劇團), Thinkers’ Studio (思劇團), The Black Dog Theatre (烏犬劇場), Taipei Philharmonic Theater (愛樂劇工廠), and Dancecology (舞蹈生態系創意團隊).
