Shanlin is famous for gourds. In addition to its first-class capabilities in growing papaya, pumpkin, bitter gourd, and loofah, it has also developed the unique art of gourd carving. In the able hands of the craftsman, gourds are turned into works of art for people to appreciate and enjoy. The Sea of Flowers event is also a major feature of Shanlin. - The Sea of Flowers Festival is held along County Highway 181 in Shanlin District. In addition to the sunflower maze, there are also seas of cosmos and zinnia.
