The trails and scenic spots connect the memories of culture, history, and nature of Zaoqiao Township. From the observation deck of Zhenghan Trail, you can overlook the winding Zhonggang River, and the C-curve railway cutting through the green rice fields. The beautiful scenery brings many railway fans here. Jiantan Ancient Trail was the main road for Zaoqiao villagers to get in and out of the village and transport supplies. “Osmanthus fragrance under tung trees” is a specialty here.
Fun activities
- Longsheng Lake has beautiful mountain scenery and clear waters. The circular trail around the lake is a good place for a leisurely walk. The pumpkin tunnel is a great spot for social media photos.
- The old Japanese-style dormitory in front of Zaoqiao Station has been renovated and transformed into Zaoqiao Culture Center. The Japanese-style garden and the dormitory made of Taiwan cypress are great photo spots.
- Jiantan Ancient Trail is a well-known tung flower viewing spot. Every year the Tung Flower Festival brings many visitors here for the blossoms.

Pomelo
Xihu pomelo is a well-known high-end fruit in Taiwan. The 40-year-old trees give huge, plump fruits with a honey aroma. They are so popular that they are often grabbed before harvesting.
Pumpkin
The most well-known pumpkin varieties in Shanlin District are Dongsheng Pumpkin and Yipin Pumpkin, both of which are the pride of Shanlin farmers. They are juicy and sweet, with soft and dense texture.
