Houlong is one of the four coastal townships in Miaoli County. Formerly known as "Tianxinzi," it is the only township in Taiwan with four train stations. With its serene fishing ports and picturesque small fishing villages, Houlong is a peaceful and simple retreat, exuding a tranquil and laid-back charm. The unique sandy soil here nurtures sweet, juicy watermelons and plump peanuts, adding a distinctive flavor to this humble countryside.
This coastal town, known for its famous Cape of Good Hope, is surrounded by small hills and gently embraced by the sea. The railroad cutting through and the simple rural scenery together create a beautiful picture of Taiwan.
- During the Qing Dynasty, port trade in Houlong was prosperous. The bright and bustling port scene was known as one of Miaoli's eight scenic spots – the returning boats at the port. The Tongxing Old Street, adjacent to the fishing port, is the oldest street in Houlong. Strolling down this ancient street feels like stepping back in time to its glorious past.
- After a rain shower, puddles appear on the grass at Seaside Paradise, resembling tears of an angel on the ground. From June to September, the endless sea of bright orange and yellow flowers, the blue sky, and the slowly turning giant wind turbines, along with the arc-shaped steel rainbow, make this a must-visit secret spot for photos in Houlong!
- Known locally as "Bantianliao," the Cape of Good Hope offers a broad, magnificent view, especially famous for its sunset scenes. The white wind turbines create a blue and white symphony with the azure sea, while the occasional train passing through the green fields adds a vivid touch to the scenery.
- With a history of over a hundred years, Dashan Station combines Western architectural elements with traditional Japanese-style architecture. As one of the few remaining wooden stations in Taiwan, its wooden windows and benches, low tiled roofs, and white walls evoke a strong sense of nostalgia.
- Waipu Fishing Port is the largest fishing port in Miaoli. Besides offering a feast of fresh seafood for food lovers, the sea breeze and picturesque views of the port provide a unique charm. Recently, the abandoned fishing boats nearby have become a popular spot for photos.
