Xiangshan is the largest administrative district in Hsinchu City, primarily focused on agricultural and fishery development. During the Japanese colonial period, the introduction of glassmaking technology turned Xiangshan into a major center for the glass industry. Although the industry has declined and many factories have relocated, several glass factories remain, transforming into tourist attractions. Due to its proximity to the Taiwan Strait and several streams running through the area, Xiangshan boasts a rich wetland ecosystem. The district combines mountain and sea natural landscapes with historical and cultural significance. A significant number of Hakka people reside in Xiangshan, offering visitors the chance to create their own unique indigo-dyed works and enjoy local Hakka cuisine.
- Adjacent to Chung Hua University, the expansive Jiaxin Camellia Garden showcases a variety of camellia species that blow people’s minds. The garden is especially enchanting during the camellia blooming season around the Lunar New Year, providing a visual feast for visitors.
- Xiangshan Train Station is a classic Japanese-style wooden structure and the only remaining train station in Taiwan built entirely from cypress wood. Still in operation and well-preserved, the station exudes a charming antique aura with its delightful cypress fragrance, making it a city-designated historical monument.
- Spring Pool Tourism Factory, the first tourist factory in Hsinchu City, promotes green energy glass by recycling and reprocessing discarded glass. Visitors can admire exquisite glass craftsmanship and art while discovering the impressive soundproof, fireproof, and heat insulation properties of glass.
