Leave the hustle and bustle of the city behind and visit Hualien. Slowly riding a bicycle from Hualien city along the coastline accompanied by the Pacific sea breeze, visitors can recall how a century ago Hakka settlers, Japanese immigrants and other ethnic groups started out on their own new life journey from the old port of Nanbin. Follow the coast to Hualien Port Scenic Bridge and Xiangri Square to enjoy the sea vista. In the other direction, visitors can visit General’s House, Pine Garden and Meilun Mountain Park, or hike the Sakul Trail and enjoy the baptism of nature's phytoncides.

In downtown Hualien, the most famous old railway business district is often the first place to attract attention. Visitors can follow the line to explore the alleys of Hualien City, visit the Hualien Cultural & Creative Industries Park, stroll among the old houses and alleys, and get to know the different styles of the city, while all the time enjoying the slower pace of life.

• The General's House was an officer's dormitory under the Japanese and the preserved wooden buildings are all Japanese style.
• Sakul Trail located next to the Sakura Trail overlooks Hualien City and allows visitors to see Sagur Falls up close.
• Hualien Railway Cultural Park has a strong nostalgic feel through which visitors can experience the flow of railways in the past.
• The architectural style of Pine Garden blends east and west. It is named after the century-old pine forest and is one Hualien’s must-see attractions where visitors can look into the distance and enjoy beautiful scenery. 
• The Golden Triangle Business Circle combines the surrounding streets and the old railway business district. Whether visitors want to buy souvenirs, visit specialty shops or enjoy delicious food, this location has it all.
• Dongdamen Night Market is the largest night market in Hualien City. It has everything from food, to daily necessities and game stalls. Whether local people or tourists from around the world, a trip to Dongdamen Night Market is a must when visiting Hualien.
• Cycling on Liangtan Bikeway visitors can enjoy the straight coastline, fishing ports, historical buildings and beautiful lakes at the northern end of the East Rift Valley, a rich and varied sightseeing route that allows visitors to enjoy both mountain and sea views.
