In order to introduce visitors to the New Year customs of Hakka people in southern Taiwan during the Lunar New Year, Liudui Hakka Cultural Park under the Hakka Affairs Council’s Taiwan Hakka Culture Development Center has specially planned the "2024 Liudui Chinese New Year Blessings" series of events. These will be held from the first day of the Lunar New Year on February 10th to the fifth on February 14th and there will be nine highlight activities. One of which is "In Search of Clothing - Liudui Original Hakka Clothing Patterns Dialogue Exhibition," initial trials of which started today (29th).
During the Lunar New Year, in addition to arts and cultural activities suitable for the whole family, Liudui Park will also have a special exhibition of "Images of Taiwan – Taiwanese in Transition" organized in collaboration with National Palace Museum. During the New Year there will also be a special exhibition of Hakka and indigenous tribes titled "In search of Clothing-Liudui Original Hakka Clothing Patterns Dialogue Exhibition." This showcases "clothing patterns" of the Liudui Hakka and their close friends in the neighborhood including tribes such as the Paiwan, Rukai, Makadao and Tevorangh peoples. The exhibition presents unique clothing features and patterns, as well as diverse perspectives resulting from interactions between different peoples.
This year is the Year of the Dragon and the mythical beast is embraced as the central theme around which Lunar New Year events for the whole family are organized at Liudui Park. Visitors will see "dragons" featured in Hakka folk art performance, art and cultural performances, handicraft courses, and challenge experiences. From this day, visitors can also complete the required tasks at the park’s visitor service center and receive a limited number of "Chinese New Year's blessing red envelopes." Over the Lunar New Year, exciting art performances are planned every day, including Che Gu Zhen, husband carrying wife dance, acrobatics, Dragon and Lion Dance, and lively performances by Golden Melody Awards winners "New San GeuTai Band Lead Vocal," Blue Shirts Music and Dance Troupe, new generation singer-songwriters Qiu Shuchan, Li Yanfeng, Li Dongxuan and others. A limited number of "New Year Lucky Bags" will also be sold every day, with daily grand prizes from the "Heart Poking Lottery,” waiting for people to try their luck and receive blessings. There are also Hakka handmade DIY items such as flower arrangements for worshipping, painted dragon heads, and blue shirt pendant DIY experiences. Visitors who want to try Hakka rice flat noodles, will not want to miss "Steaming Away-Making Rice Flat Noodles" and "Liudui Hakka Rice Dishes" or the hand rubbing creative Lunar New Year couplets where they can learn Hakka. In addition, the fifth day of the Lunar New Year is February 14, which coincides with Valentine's Day, when the park will hold a special event "Public Display of Affection for Roses" at 13:14 p.m.
During the Lunar New Year, flowers bloom in the pastoral area of Liudui Park where the cosmos, zinnias, starburst bushes and other flowers are in full bloom. It is an excellent place for the whole family to take a stroll and experience the beauty of nature. There is also a special market in Liudui for shopping. In order to celebrate the "Liudui Autumn Harvest Festival" which won the first "Tourism Spotlight Award" from the Tourism Administration, MOTC, the Taiwan Hakka Culture Development Center has organized the "New Year Tour to Liudui Hakka Villages" event to take pictures, check-in and take part in prize draws. Liudui Park welcomes visitors during the Lunar New Year, to experience the rich and diverse festive atmosphere and celebrate together.
