The Taiwan Hakka Museum and the Liudui Hakka Cultural Park, both under the umbrella of the Hakka Affairs Council's Hakka Cultural Development Center, hosted a series of events today (28th) to celebrate National Hakka Day. The festivities included experiences such as a Hakka rice food workshop featuring hand-made Hakka glutinous rice balls, a screening of the Hakka documentary "When Flowers Bloom," initiatives to promote children's education in the Hakka language through storytelling, and rewarding experiences like check-in incentives for speaking Hakka. At the Liudui Hakka Cultural Park, Director He Jin-liang of the Hakka Cultural Development Center led the team in creating a celebratory video, encouraging visitors to enthusiastically declare, "National Hakka Day, let’s all speak Hakka," showcasing the shared enthusiasm and vitality of Hakka culture among both Hakka natives and non-Hakka friends throughout Taiwan.
Since 2022, the Hakka Affairs Council has designated December 28th as National Hakka Day, originally the Hakka Language Restoration Movement Day. The movement marked not only the awakening of the Hakka ethnic group, but also an important milestone in connecting Taiwan's mother tongue movement with international efforts. Through sustained initiatives like National Hakka Day, the council aims to foster awareness and appreciation of Hakka cultural values among all ethnic groups.
